DLA Architects Spreads Big News With Tablet Flapper Mailer
When you or your business has big news to share, you wouldn’t trust just anyone with that announcement, would you?
DLA Architects of Itasca, IL didn’t. When it came time to announce their firm’s new president, the team knew they needed a production company just as unique as their idea.
“It’s a big deal for us, but we knew that most people wouldn’t care,” said Wendy Covich in an email. “We had to make it interesting for the recipient who didn’t personally already know the people involved, or why would they bother reading it?"
“When I saw Red Paper Plane in a magazine, I was excited by the different product offerings,” she continued. “I ordered a sample pack over a year ago, and we’ve been taking them out every once in a while to see if our campaign would work. The samples were exciting and great quality, so it was really a matter of finding a campaign that would align well with such a unique presentation.”
To introduce the firm’s new president, the team decided to go with a Tablet Flapper, one of Red Paper Plane’s most versatile templates.
According to Covich, the piece “told the story in the order we wanted it to.” It showed the company as a group on one panel, then revealed a playful “power struggle” between the former president (who had just retired) and the incoming one. The next panel included a message from the firm’s CEO explaining how proud he was to welcome the new president. Finally, the last panel featured a message from the new president.
So, was the piece successful?
“Yes, we’ve heard from so many people about how clever it was; How they loved it because it was very ‘us’,” Covich said. “We’ve heard people say that they’ve been showing their friends the pieces, which is exciting because it spreads our news farther. It works well because it’s not a full-on sales piece; it’s subtler and more about culture and our creativity."
